Adult Parties at Kiln Creations: Pick Your People, Pick Your Project, We'll Handle the Rest

Somewhere along the way, adult celebrations became very predictable.

You make a dinner reservation. Everyone arrives. You eat. You talk. Someone brings a cake. The server takes a group photo where at least one person has their eyes closed. Everyone goes home.

And listen—we love dinner.

But sometimes you want to actually do something.

We've hosted adult birthdays, work groups, bachelorettes, showers, friend nights, family gatherings and just-because-we-haven't-seen-each-other-in-six-months get-togethers for years, and we've learned that there isn't really one perfect way to throw an adult party.

Some groups want to sit around a table with a bottle of wine and paint pottery for two hours. Some want us to teach them something. Some want to get their hands dirty with clay. Some want an activity that requires approximately four brain cells because the real purpose of the evening is catching up with their friends.

So we've changed the way we're doing adult parties at Kiln Creations, with more ways to build the experience around your group instead of trying to fit your group into a party package.

Start With the Kind of Night You Want

This is probably the easiest way to plan a party with us.

Don't start by asking yourself which package you're supposed to choose.

Tell us what you want the night to feel like.

Do you want something relaxed where everyone can choose their own project and work at their own pace? Pottery painting is perfect.

Want everyone making the same thing while we walk you through it? Let's plan a guided project.

Want to get messy and try something you haven't done since middle school, or ever? We can get into the clay.

Want an actual experience that your group will still be talking about afterward? We have plenty of those too.

You don't have to already know the difference between stoneware and earthenware or decide whether your friends are emotionally prepared for a pottery wheel. That's our job.

You tell us about your people, we'll help you find the fun part.

🎨 Keep It Easy: Pottery Painting

There is a reason pottery painting has been the heart of Kiln Creations for 25 years.

It works for almost everybody.

Your friend who paints every weekend can spend two hours creating an elaborate masterpiece. Your friend who claims she has absolutely no artistic ability can grab a silkscreen, pick three colors and make something she genuinely loves. Your friend who mostly came to drink wine and gossip can accomplish those goals while occasionally remembering there's also a mug in front of her.

Everyone gets to be at the same table without everyone having to have the same skill level, attention span or creative ambition.

Choose pieces, pick your colors, raid our collection of tools, stamps, stencils, silkscreens and specialty glazes, and settle in.

We'll help when you need us.

We'll leave you alone to discuss whatever scandal brought the group together when you don't. (But also please tell us, we love to gossip and the advice we provide with the paint is free.... and bad LOL!)

🏺 Or Let Us Teach You Something

Sometimes you don't want everyone wandering off and choosing different things.

You want a project.

That's where our guided experiences come in.

We can build your party around a specific pottery technique, stoneware project, canvas, handbuilding experience or another project your whole group can create together. Everyone starts in roughly the same place, we teach you what to do, and by the end you get to see twelve completely different interpretations of the same idea.

And no, you don't need an artistic person in the group.

We are the artistic person in the group.

That's why you invited us.

🌀 Yes, You Can Have a Pottery Wheel Party

If your group's collective bucket list contains "try the pottery wheel," we can fix that.

Wheel parties are messy, ridiculous and incredibly satisfying, particularly because almost everyone begins absolutely convinced they're going to sit down and immediately recreate that scene from Ghost.

You will not.

But you will get your hands into the clay, learn how the wheel actually works, laugh when somebody's bowl develops an unexpected personality and experience the tiny rush of triumph that happens when you suddenly realize the lump spinning in front of you has become an actual vessel.

For a milestone birthday, couples' gathering, small friend group or celebration where you want the activity itself to be the story, this is a really fun way to do it.

🍷 Bring the Snacks. Bring the Drinks. Bring Your People.

Adult parties at Kiln Creations can also be BYOB for guests 21+, which means we're very comfortable with the concept that sometimes creativity is improved by a glass of wine.

Bring snacks. Bring cake. Bring your favorite people.

Make it a birthday, bachelorette party, girls' night, couples' night, family get-together, book club outing, team celebration, reunion or a completely fabricated occasion because everyone needed an excuse to put something on the calendar.

We are not going to demand proof of celebration.

"We haven't hung out lately" is an occasion.

You Don't Have to Be an Artist. Seriously.

We know, you're not artistic. You can't draw. Your sister got all the creative genes.

The last thing you painted was a handprint turkey in 1997.

We've heard it all.

One of our favorite things about creative parties is watching a table full of adults gradually stop caring about whether they're "good at art." Someone discovers a glaze they love. Somebody starts copying somebody else's idea. Someone asks us how to make a flower and realizes it's considerably easier than they thought. Everyone starts passing things around and showing each other what they're making.

And eventually the table gets quiet for a few minutes because everyone is actually concentrating.

That's usually when we know we've got you.

The Best Part Isn't Really the Pottery

We love pottery. Obviously.

But after doing this for 25 years, we know the piece you make isn't really the important part.

It's getting eight people with eight jobs and eight schedules and eight thousand other things they could be doing into the same room for a couple of hours.

It's making your mom laugh so hard she screws up the line she was painting.

It's realizing your quiet coworker is secretly an incredible artist.

It's everyone making wildly inappropriate ornaments at the family Christmas party.

It's the mug in your cabinet three years later that reminds you of the people who were sitting around the table when you painted it.

That's the stuff we're actually selling.

The pottery just happens to survive the evening.

Come Have Your Party at Our Place

Our new adult party options give us more room to create a gathering that actually fits the people you're bringing, whether you want an easy pottery-painting night, a guided creative experience, something messy with clay or an activity that makes everyone say, "Ohhhh, I've always wanted to try that."

You don't need to have the whole thing figured out before you contact us.

Tell us what you're celebrating, who's coming and what kind of night you're imagining.

We'll take it from there.

These memories won't make themselves. 💜
