Nothing is trash in our studio, and that includes glaze. We currently carry over 60 regular glazes and more than 60 specialty glazes. Glitters, Jungle Gems, Elements, Stroke and coat- and that doesn't even get into the stoneware glazes we offer for our wheel thrown pieces.
We try to be a full-service studio because pottery can be confusing, and we want it to be easy for you to want to come back. Our Stroke and Coat glazes are our "normal" glazes. They are on our paint bar and you can grab and go, mix and match, and use these in essentially any way you'd like. Your pottery will turn out great each time.
But when it comes to our specialty glazes- like the Mayco Jungle Gems, Mayco Elements glazes, and Colorobbia's Fairy Dust- we like to dish these out for you and give a couple of extra pointers.
How did Trash glazes come about?
As you can imagine, our studio gets very busy on the weekends and we can be juggling classes, checking people out, and explaining the glazes. After dishing them out there are times that we forget what glazes we have given out. Some may say it's just a little glaze. Throw it out if you forget. In our studio, we turn those forgotten glazes into money by making our staple product: Trash glazes.
How do you make Trash Glazes?
We have 4 trash Glazes in our studio: Blue Trash, Green Trash, Pink Trash, and Straight Trash. When we hand out glazes that we know fall into blue, green or pink color families, but we aren't 100% sure which one it is, it goes in one of those trash containers. When we've lost the thread entirely, it goes into Straight Trash. These glazes change weekly, the green slightly shifting lighter, the blue gaining purple tones, the pink trending coral, based on what we add.
Why do people choose trash glazes, knowing they can be different from the sample?
The people that choose trash glazes are either down for an adventure or overdone on our normal offerings. We also use trash glazes for specific projects to create a one-of-a-kind look. During the winter season we have to manufacture green trash to keep up with demand for Christmas trees!

On our recent podcast episode: The Mafia's Chokehold on Trash, we chose to spotlight our blue trash glaze. Here you can see the deep ocean blue base with every. single. gem. ever. made. Want to try your hand at trash? Join us anytime we're open, pick a piece, and check out the trash! We can't wait to create with you. If you can't make it to our studio, you can try another- but we can't promise they'll have trash.
