For Louise's bowl:

Supplies:

3-4 lbs Stoneware clay- We used our studio reclaim which is a mix of Amaco White 11, Buff 46, and Terracotta 77.

Round brush

Loop and ribbon tool

Amaco PC glazes:

19 Moon River

18 Tuscan Blue

13 Serpentine Green

32 Albany slip brown

Celadon:

10 Snow

Potter’s Choice Flux:

03 Midnight Run

Instructions:

Throw a 3-4 lb bowl the is about 7’ wide and 4 inches tall, leaving the walls and base rather thick for trimming

Allow to dry until just before leather hard

Using the loop and ribbon tool, carve bowl as preferred- we took large chunks out of the bottom to look like waves, then above that did straight lines to mimic wheat, then smaller chunks to resemble mountains

Trim base and add a foot ring

Allow to dry slowly

Paint using the above glazes. We started at the bottom with Tuscan Blue, then Albany slip brown, then midnight run, then moon river at the top, all 3 coats. Consider doing two coats of Midnight run if you want less movement. The inside is Serpentine green, 3 coats, with a band of Tuscan blue, 1 coat. Then we dotted the tops of the mountains with Snow.
